“It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition.
Albert Einstein
My discovery was the result of musical perception.”
This was Einstein’s response when asked about his theory of relativity, the same theory that transformed the theory of physics and astronomy at the tender age of 26, a disruption in 200-year-old thinking
Einstein was well known for being a fan of music, but more importantly believed that music (and the arts in general) was essential to his work, and fuel for his brain.
We all know he was a great mind and yet this statement says so much about his self awareness, confidence and belief in himself. Despite his brilliance in his field of study, he was not known for being very good musically, and yet he continued to experiment with it and find the role it had in his process.
It is likely had glimpses of excellence that compelled him to bring his work to life, because he could have no way of knowing what his impact would be. This is a great example of experimenting, testing modalities, having keen awareness and collaboration that enabled the comparison to what was working.
Imagine a world where we all had that sort of self compassion and confidence to explore things without reservation, or embarrassment when it sounded funny played back in our head.
This is really a note to remind myself of those things, but I would ask you as well, since I am a coach and that’s what I am compelled to do.
As you reflect on your journey💭
Where have you seen glimmers of excellence, moments where you were amazed by yourself, and you took it further to see what you could do. What accomplishments have you had that may have taken twists and turns and in the middle you didn’t know where you would end up and then…you did.
what was it that compelled you to start the thing called…
That, my friends, is YOUR talent, and a little bit of…
This link takes you to another fellow innovator, disruptor Dominc Fike. He is a 24 yr old artist with a new album released last Friday (I wrote this many years ago) It’s only 34 minutes long and not a required listening but it’s a reminder to make sure you take time for your brain to just enjoy.
