We all share a desire to make a difference in the world, it’s a core pillar of human fulfillment, and these days it feels more important than ever. But it’s a daunting task given all the complexity of challenges beyond our own life.
Recently, I had the opportunity to learn more about the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an initiative launched in 2015 with the aim of creating a better and more sustainable future by 2030. It wasn’t until a call, led by Dr. Fredrik Lindencrona of the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) initiative, that I became aware of the 17 goals, but also felt a sense that I could contribute in many different ways. Specifically sharing this information in hopes that inspires someone else as well.
These 17 goals are a blueprint for a better world, addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. Each of these goals is designed to ensure a prosperous, just, and healthy future for both people and the planet. (detailed list at bottom of the page)
A Quick Look at the 17 Sustainable Development Goals
A New Perspective on Multi tasking
While each of these goals is unique, they are deeply interconnected. Progress in one area supports progress in others. For example, providing quality education helps reduce inequality, which in turn, can fuel sustainable economic growth. By focusing on gender equality, we also open up opportunities for healthier families, better economies, and more innovative solutions for our environmental crises.
The beauty of the SDGs is that they offer something for everyone to engage with—whether you’re passionate about education, innovation, or the environment. One of the most inspiring aspects of the SDGs is how they emphasize the power of collaboration. These goals are not just the responsibility of governments and large organizations; they belong to all of us. By aligning our personal efforts with this global vision, we can all contribute to meaningful, lasting change.
The Inner Development Goals (IDGs) offer a pathway to achieving the SDGs by focusing on building the necessary transformational skills—what we often refer to as “inner development.” IDGs believe that to solve these global challenges, we need to understand and improve the mindset, skills, and attitudes required to create sustainable change.
The IDGs are currently gathering global insights to shape a comprehensive framework that will guide both individual and societal transformation.
By participating in the global conversation facilitated by the IDGs, you’ll be helping to shape the world’s approach to inner and outer development. Your insights will contribute to creating a solid framework that guides people toward more conscious leadership, community engagement, and personal responsibility. This framework will be based on input from people all over the world, making it one of the most inclusive global studies ever conducted.
