The Real Winner of the 2023 US Open: The Honey Deuce

As a huge fan of both New York City and tennis, the US Open has always been my favorite tournament of the year. There’s just something magical about the electric atmosphere in Flushing Meadows, where the world’s best players meet and the energy of the crowd is infectious. This year marked my third Labor Day in a row attending the US Open, it did not disappoint! The crowd gets more fashionable and fun each time, and there’s always an electric energy in the air. Being there in the middle of the tournament means you never know who you’ll get to see up close and personal – we lucked out by finding the practice courts and catching one of Jannik Sinner’s practice balls when he tossed it into the crowd.

Putting the tennis and fashion aside, I was excited for the now-legendary Honey Deuce cocktail. Last year was my first taste and the commemorative cups we took home weren’t just clever marketing (though, genius, I must say); they’ve sparked a competitive sport in my house over who gets to use them! Needless to say, I had more than a few this year (I needed more cups of course)—and given the fact that Honey Deuce sales were up 30%, I wasn’t the only one!

The Stats: Honey Deuce Dominates

The buzz around the Honey Deuce isn’t just in my circle of friends; this cocktail has become a star in its own right. It generated an impressive $12.8 million in revenue this year, and that’s a staggering four times what the actual US Open champion took home in prize money. It’s wild to think that a simple cocktail could make such a splash, but there’s something about it that keeps fans coming back year after year.

The Secret Sauce: Honey Deuce Recipe

What makes this cocktail so special? Well, it’s the perfect combination of simplicity and elegance. Here’s how you can recreate the magic at home:

Not only is it incredibly refreshing, but the honeydew melon garnish gives it that signature tennis-inspired flair that has fans coming back for more—both in New York and beyond.

From Books to Backhands: Serving Up Honey Deuces and Finals Fun

My recent book club gathering just happened to fall on the same day as the men’s final, and since our “book club” is more on the social side of things, I couldn’t resist turning it into a tennis-inspired party. I mean I had the US Open cups so it was a no brainer and no surprise the cocktail stole the show and gave us something extra to toast to while we “discussed” our book Summer Fridays: A Novel by Suzanne Rindell, which got a thumbs up from the group.

Here’s to another fun US Open, and cheers to the Honey Deuce for being the real MVP of the tournament!
